THIS IS DEDICATED TO MRS. LAIN FOR ALL THE CREATIVE HELP SHE PROVIDES, ESPECIALLY BRAINSTORMING BEFORE EACH ISSUE

My Interview with Mrs. Lain
I think that Mrs. Lain is a good person because she is good helper. On Thursday, January 11, I interviewed Mrs. Lain. Read on about Mrs. Lain.
Mrs. Lain has been working full time at the school since October 1987. In 1980, she substituted at KLS when Mr. Dave Spear was principal and was the kindergarten aide. In 1988, she started full time as library aid and was in charge of the satellite correspondence program. In 2001, she became the secretary.
She was also an SRI lift operator, after-construction clean-upper, baker, waitress and hostess, deli worker, and farm hand on Mr. Lightwood's homestead (her first job in Alaska). Most of Mrs. Lain's work has been when she is a mom.
She was one of six children; four brothers and a sister, and she was the fourth born of six children.
She loves all kind of animals, and her favorite books are fiction, cookbooks, and magazines. Her hobbies are mosaic, knitting, handcrafts, and skiing.
The most important thing about Mrs. Lain is she a great mom and takes good care of our school.
We love you Mrs. Lain!!!!

Why do we celebrate ''Martin Luther King'' ?
By: Rebecca Ann Morgan

Martin Luther King wanted people to be able to go places together, share food together, and love one another in peace. He was also a peacekeeper.
He had a dream that people, black, white, all nationalities, would be judged not by the color of their skin but by ''the content of their character." He is famous for his speech ''I have a dream.''
He was a Lutheran minister and a brave man. He was considered a brave man because a lot of people were prejudiced and did not want everybody because of the color of their skin, to have equal rights. He stood up and told the world that black people were equal to white people.
He was threatened many times, and he was eventually assassinated.
Ms. Rees and Martin Luther King have twin birthdays on January 15.

Squirts Game Against The Glennallen Panthers
We have new players on our team this year who have never played hockey and each time they skate they get better and better. They both like the sport, and both want to play next year. Some of us have been playing since Mites like Sage, Felicity, Deanna, Steve, Wyatt, Trayl, Riley, and me. I recommend this sport because it makes you stay in shape, it helps you get along with people better, and its really fun.
Last Thursday the 11th, Glennallenn and Kenny Lake squirts teams had a game here at our school. It was our first hockey game this year. The score for the game was 6 to ZIP. I am a little disappointed that we ended up loosing because everybody tried so hard. But when you lose, you should still have a good at

Mrs. Moore
by Lia Carmen
Last week I got the chance to interview Mrs. Moore, a teacher at KLS for thirty-five years. She was born in Minnesota, and moved here in 1979, but before that she had many other jobs. She was a carhop at a drive in, she worked at a restaurant, and she was a waitress. After that Mrs. Moore went to college to be a teacher, but she still does classes here at our public library. Mrs. Moore went to college at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Mrs. Moore has two boys whose names are Jesse and Josh. Mrs. Moore has many other children she taught by the looks of her room. It looks like she has more than one hundred because she puts all of the names of her previous students on posters.
When Mrs. Moore moved here she became a teacher. Mrs. Moore teaches the sixth grade, but her favorite subject to teach is math so she teaches the fifth, sixth, seventh grade math too. Ms. Moore loves teaching here because she likes small schools and classes. She also likes being a part of kids' lives and helping them grow up, even if it means yelling at them sometimes.
Ms. Moore's favorite thing to do is read good books her favorite thing to do in the summer is to travel, mow her lawn, and grow tomatoes. As you can see, she has an interesting life so I can't wait to be in her class.

NEW ELEMENTARY HOCKEY RINK
Thanks to Levi's leading by serving, Dave Bruss plowing an area for us, and Mr. Bishop flooding the rink, we can now skate without having to go to the high school rinks. The new rink is located right were the old soccer field by the elementary playground was. Mr. Oatman will zam the rink to take away some of the bumps.
The new rink will be open to all the kids during recess. There will be no schedule until problems arrive. "The reason why there will be no schedule is because we want the big kids or more experienced kids to teach the younger kids," Mr. Bishop said, who is in charge of all this.
However you are not allowed on the ice with boots. Other rules are that you must wear a thick hat and that sticks and pucks are prohibited. Even though it is ice it doesn't mean there's hockey. I am so glad that we have a rink. It is cool that we can skate again and I am thankful that Mr. Bishop took the time to make it, and I can't wait to use it.

Kenny Lake Calendar
The voting for the next school year is on! On the Internet at www.crsd.k12.ak.us, under District Information, are two calendars that you vote on,
On calendar Option A, school would start the 20th of August and end the 21st of May. On Option B, school would start the 28th and end the 27th. You can also make comments and explain why you want Option A or B. On Option B, the last day of school, which is Tuesday, would be after a 3-day weekend. Kids might not come and would miss the picnic.
If I could vote, I would vote for Option A because school will start early and end early. I hope you take this seriously and vote.
-Deanna Knutson
